Engines and performance options
The Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with a wide array of engines including a turbocharged four-cylinder power plant, a pair of V8 engines and a 3.0-liter six-cylinder Duramax® diesel. If you like the V8 possibilities, you can choose either a 5.3-liter V8 or a 6.2-liter upgrade with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The bigger 6.2-liter V8 can take you from zero to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds while the smaller 355 horsepower 5.3-liter can make the same run in 6.1 seconds. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel gives you a muscular 495 pound-feet of torque.
Towing and payload capacity
The latest version of the Chevy Silverado 1500 offers you a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 lbs which is enough to beat the Ram 1500. That highest-level rating is available with the 6.2-liter V8 engine but the 5.3-liter variation can still pull as much as 11,500 pounds. Go with the more affordable turbocharged four-cylinder engine and your maximum towing capacity is 9,500 lbs. Siliverado payload capacity ranges from 1,870 pounds to 2,280 pounds.
Cab styles and bed lengths
The Chevy Silverado comes with three cab styles: Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab. Both the Double Cab and Crew Cab give you two rows of seat with room for five or six people depending on the configuration you choose. The spacious Crew Cab gives you 8 inches more leg room in the rear than the Double Cab and the full-size rear doors make it easy to get in and out. The Silverado also gives you three bed sizes: A long bed at 8 feet, a standard bed of 6 feet and a short bed of 5 feet 8 inches.
Fuel economy
Nobody buys a full-size pickup like the Chevy Silverado to break fuel efficiency records but the diesel engine can do far better than you might expect. It gives you EPA estimates of up to 23 MPG in the city and an amazing 33 MPG on highways around Valley Stream, NY. With all-wheel drive, the highway rating is reduced to 26 MPG. The gas-powered turbo-four with all-wheel drive can deliver 20 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.
Interior highlights
At the most affordable Work Truck level, you'll be operating with essentials like a 7-inch touch screen, wired smartphone connectivity, manually-adjustable front seats, manual locks and windows. Starting with the LT trim, you'll be looking at a nicer dashboard design and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Other available upgrades include wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless device charging, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry and a sunroof.
